I haven't purchased anything from Badu since her first album, but I did respect her as an artist,until now. How sad is it when a woman who was once touted as this generation's Diana Ross,feels she has to "skrip" to get attention for her new CD.

He wasted time and energy writing an entire book about "Why Bill Cosby Is Wrong".I do not know much about Senator Eric Adams from New York. I don't know if he's a Democrat or Republican,supports the President or hates the President. But I DO know, I am with him 110%. It's time these kids (and in some cases) GROWN MEN........raise their pants and raise their image.

Playing Politics With The "Black Vote"

Some of you are familiar with Artur Davis because he was the ONLY member of the Congressional Black Caucus to vote AGAINST the recent Healthcare Reform bill.Well let me give you some more insight as to who he is,why I think he voted NO and why I think he is a sell out.
Since 2003,Artur Davis has represented the 7th congressional district here in the state of Alabama. It is over 70% rural and over 60% black.It's a district where Barack Obama won 72% of the vote and according to Artur Davis profile on vote-al.org,is the THIRD poorest congressional distict IN THE COUNTRY. Many of those people are unemployed and do not have insurance.The ones who ARE employed can't afford to purchase the insurance their company provides.
That's why it shocked people in this state when he decided to vote NO. Many believe it was done solely for political purposes.Mr.Davis is running for Governor here in Alabama.I guess he thought if he "stood up to President Obama",he could win some extra (white)votes while keeping the "black vote". Right now in the city of Birmingham,this man is running commercials on black radio stations about how he stood up to George W.Bush's tax cuts.
MAN THAT WAS 4 YEARS AGO!!!
There is a poll that his people are pushing that says he will get 80% of the "black vote" in this state. But who are they polling? They're not polling anyone I know. It's almost like people think we ALL are uninformed. Like they can tell us anything and we'll just accept it as fact. Listen,Micheal Steele has a better chance of becoming president of the NAACP before Artur Davis can get Republicans in this state to vote for him.Over 30% of Republicans in Alabama think the President is a Muslim and not a citizen of the U.S. - OVER 30%!!!
I will not sit by and watch this man or any other politician take the "black vote" for granted.That's one reason why I blog so much about politics.So that you can half-way know how to hold a discussion with your kids when they bring these things up. Yesterday I was having a conversation with someone about their child's teacher telling her class that the healthcare bill wasn't good for them. This woman said when her child asked HER about it,she didn't know what she was talking about.Matter of fact she didn't even call it the healthcare bill. She referred to it as "that bill that people are mad about". It's people like THAT woman who makes the Artur Davis' of the world sell out their constituents.They figure we have no clue what's going on and all they got to do is say they voted against George W.Bush's tax cuts. Not realizing he's probably running the same commercial on the white stations saying how he voted against the President's Government takeover of healthcare.
THAT'S why I call him a sell out. Not that I think people should agree with the President all the time. But when it will benefit your constituents,you have an obligation to vote the right way.Even if it's wrong for you politically.BUT,until we began to educate ourselves,get involved and STAY involved.We will always have an Artur Davis playing politics with "the Black Vote"

Georgia AG Facing Impeachment For NOT Selling Out

Georgia's Attorney General Thubert Baker faces Impeachment threats for not filing an Anti-Health Care lawsuit against the U.S. I bet the Republicans in Georgia thought he would sell out the President like Artur Davis of Alabama did. For those of you who don't know who Artur Davis is. Don't worry,you will VERY SOON. That blog is coming this weekend.
Mr.Baker,who is running for Governor of Georgia said this about the lawsuit,
"I cannot justify a decision to initiate expensive and time-consuming litigation that I believe has no legal merit," Baker wrote in a two-page response to Gov. Perdue. "In short, this litigation is likely to fail and will consume significant amounts of taxpayers' hard-earned money in the process."
On Thursday Gov. Perdue said he would appoint a "special attorney general" to sign on to the lawsuit challenging the health care bill since Baker would not do it himself, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
So let me see if I understand this correctly.
The white Republican Governor tells the black Attorney General to do something. The black Attorney General then basically tells the white Republican Governor to go play in traffic. Then the white Republican Governor gets upset that the black Attorney General didn't do what he TOLD him to do. So he's going to appoint "a special attorney general" to do it?
Wait a minute!
Where did white Republicans get the idea that they could tell a black man who is in a position of authority to jump.And that black man would respond by asking,"how high"?
Where on EARTH would they get THAT idea from?

The blogasphere and international media are in an uproar this morning over this video. It shows Former President George W.Bush WIPING HIS HANDS on the shirt of former President Bill Clinton after shaking hands with people in Haiti. I don't want to jump to conclusions here,but when did you ever see him WIPE HIS HANDS on someone when he was shaking hands at Republican events? I've seen him hold babies,kiss babies,shake hands at numerous speaking engagements. But this is the first time I've EVER seen him do this. Is this the reason he didn't want to get on the ground during Hurricane Katrina? President Obama said he noticed the former President used a lot of hand sanitizer during his visits with him. I ain't trying to start nothing but maybe he only used it around President Obama.......hmmmmmm.
Oh well,just thought I would share that with you.

When was the last time you did an INVENTORY CHECK?

Are there PEOPLE in your life clouding your judgement?

Why do we hang onto to people that REFUSE TO GROW?

So many people including yours truly apsire to go to a higher level in life. As painful as it is,I realize eveyone can't go. Some people are still judging me by what I USED to do and who I USED to be. When I inform them I'm trying to do things different from what I've done in the past. Then all of a sudden there's something wrong with ME. I love being asked "Oh,you think you're better than me?". I always respond by saying,"No,YOU don't think they're better than you". Unfortunately,it's not always just your friends either. Sometimes it's your family members. I've learned from experience that family members don't always have your best interest at heart.

I challenge everyone reading this blog to do an INVENTORY CHECK.I recently had to do one. Some of it was painful and some of it wasn't. But it was something I HAD to do,so I could be the best person I could be without my judgement being clouded. As you do your INVENTORY CHECK ask yourself this question.

Is this person/situation/friendship/relationship ADDING TO or SUBTRACTING FROM my life?

There's no in between,it's either one or the other. If you have to think about it the answer is obvious,THEY'RE NOT!! The challenge then becomes,do you have the will to make the decision to remove them. Even if it's temporary,can you do it? The more room you have in your life,the more space you have to grow.I challenge you to do an INVENTORY CHECK. If you decide to do it,please let me how it turns out.

Sounds far fetched but I believe him.I've said it before and I'll say it again.When you have the money and you're an NBA star.SOME women will sleep with you regardless of your marital status,looks or personality. Dude said he seldom used protection and gave his wife 2 STDs. Maybe that's the reason she's still with him. Maybe she don't think she can do any better. Low self esteem is a BEAST!!I mean,I know it's great that she's "standing by her man" and all. But how many of you would stay with a guy that confessed to sleeping with 90 women a month before he married you,and 45 women after he married you? Then this fool had the nerve to say if he found out SHE'S cheating,he would leave her.Why do so many women(married&single) put up with this kind of mess?
I admit,I had my share of women back in the day but nothing REMOTELY CLOSE to this though. How do you sleep with 90 different women a YEAR,let alone 90 women a month? And how do you do it without wearing protection?

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas wife,Virginia Thomas or "Ginni" as she likes to be called,is launching her own tea party group to stop President Obama's "hard-left agenda". "Ginni",who says she's "intrigued" by Glenn Beck and is listening to him carefully has decided to "get on the front lines to preserve what made America great".
Hmmm....REALLY!? I wonder what she means by that?
What made America great is the election of Barack Obama,who didn't start to hate himself when he questioned his racial identity(see Thomas comments on his college days)Barack Obama didn't have to sell his soul or sell out people of color to become POTUS(see Thomas comments on affirmative action).Nor did he harass any law clerks on his way to the top(see Anita Hill). Sorry,nice try "Ginni" but please inform your husband that his disdain for the President can't be masked through you. It's disrespectful enough that he doesn't attend the State of the Union address as all justices USED to do. The lame excuse he gives of the whole thing being "too partisan" is a joke. He didn't feel that way when W was President.
It's bad enough he fell asleep during the President's inauguration speech. How do you fall asleep when.......nevermind(that's another blog to itself).But to pimp you out to do his dirty work is kind of low, even for him. Never,NEVER has the wife of a Supreme Court justice been so open about their political views before.I just hope YOU are ready for the scrutiny that you're about to endure. In D.C a teacher was forced to apologize to a student and her mother. The teacher told the student she was dressed like a prostitute.

The parent allows her TENTH grade daughter out of the house with her little bumps barely covered up,the teacher calls her out and the TEACHER has to apologize? What is the world coming to? It's reported that this girl and her friends are constantly being told to dress more appropriately for school. There have been incidents where this same student was sent home for having her thong showing out of the top of her jeans. Why would you buy your daughter a thong when she's in the TENTH grade?
And the mother demanded an apology from the teacher and the school? Typical of the world that most of my people live in these days. Daughter dresses like a "garden tool" and we blame someone for pointing out the obvious. Hmmmm, I wonder how the mother dresses? Maybe that was her mother's thong she was wearing........UGGGHHHHH!!!!
I wonder what mom will say when her daughter is 21 and has 2-3 kids by 2-3 different men? I know that sounds harsh,but if she's dressing like that now. You KNOW she's gonna be off the chain when she's 18.

Detroit School Board President Can't Write

Saw this over at The Root and had to share it with the Board of Directors.

You see this guy? His name is Otis Mathis. He is the Detroit Public School Board President and he acknowledges he has problems composing a coherent English sentence. After reading some of his emails that were posted,that is an understatement.This is the man in charge of the nation's lowest achieving school district?
"I'm a horrible writer. I know that," says Mathis, 56, a lifelong resident of southwest Detroit. His difficulties with language were spotted as early as fourth grade, when he was placed in special education classes. His college degree was held up for more than a decade because he repeatedly failed an English proficiency exam then required for graduation at Wayne State University. Yet,he was elected president of the school board by a vote of 10-1 over someone who was FAR more qualified. But because he wasn't part of the "in crowd" he didn't get the job.
I don't have a problem with people who were in special education classes. Just because someone is or was in a special education class doesn't mean they lack the abilty to learn. However,I won't allow my children to attend a school system where the top official can't compose a sentence better than many of it's students. And we wonder why there's so much dysfunction in the public school systems? Here's PART of your answer. We HAVE to do better.

Mo'Nique Wins An Oscar

I'm not the biggest Mo'Nique fan in the world.I can't watch her show without turning the volume down or clicking on the mute button. I DID love her stand-up routine although I think the hypocrisy she displays is ridiculous. If you're going to call skinny women "evil" in an effort to make overweight women feel good.........

Although I still can't bring myself to watch "Precious',I congratulate Mo'Nique for winning an Oscar for best supporting actress. Maybe Hollywood will start giving more women who are not considered "the norm" a shot on the big screen. Sure there are many people who are upset that the two women celebrated in this movie don't look like Halle Berry. But when Halle won,those same people were complaining because she had to do a love scene with a white man to win an Oscar. Some of my people will never be satisfied.

Spike Lee Calls Out Tyler Perry

I had to watch this clip twice to fully understand where Spike was coming from. At first glance,it DOES appear Spike is a little salty.But does he have a point? I've had many conversations with friends about Tyler Perry and I've said some of the same things Spike is saying.Don't get it twisted,I'm all for a brother making moves in Hollywood and breaking box office records.For YEARS we've complained about our characters being few and far between. Sure there's Denzel,Will Smith,Jamie Foxx and......ummm.....I can't think of anyone else right now. Tyler Perry has been VERY successful.He was able to build his own brand of entertainment and he has his own studio......HE HAS HIS OWN STUDIO!!! There aren't many people in Hollywood able to say that.I applaud him on his success. His story is remarkable. But at what point do we move away from these type of characters?
Let me ask you this.
Do you think TBS would advertise his shows as much if they were similar to Law & Order or CSI? If the cast members were all black and it was a drama instead of this type of comedy,do you think we would see THAT in syndication?
Let me ask it another way.
Would WE support THOSE movies from Tyler Perry the way we support Madea? I mean after all,many of our people are hooked on Tiny & Toya and Frankie & Neffe.....smh(check out my blog Reality vs.REALITY from Jan)
In my opinion,Spike has a valid point when he says "this is on US". I will give you an example. Two weeks before "Madea Goes To Jail" was released in Feb.09,Bishop T.D.Jakes' movie "Not Easily Broken" with Morris Chestnut and Taraji P.Henson was released. That was a GREAT movie. But not many people saw THAT movie because everyone was waitin to see Madea. Look,I'm happy for Mr.Perry and wish him nothing but blessings. But isn't it time to flip the script?

Here we have a brother who used to sell pharmaceutical software in Marcy Projects and another brother who beat all odds and became the 44th POTUS.Here they are,chit-chatting in the White House like it's NOTHING.Sure S Dot hasn't always been the model citizen but he decided he wanted something better in life and went after it. Just goes to show you,NOTHING is impossible if you believe.Oh and for the record,neither of these men grew up with their fathers around. Just imagine what could happen if men DID decide to help raise their sons.

I applaud the President for taking a final stand on this healthcare bill today. Although I wish the public option was included,I'm not going to complain too loud about it(right now).But the problem really isn't with the Republicans.They're not going to vote for the bill ANYWAY!!! The problem is with people like Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas and other blue dog Democrats like her. And the problem is also with the President supporting these people who don't support him. This woman has sided with Republicans so much that she is actually more popular in her home state of Arkansas,than most Republicans are.Mr.President,it's time to cut them loose. It's time to start taking care of your base. Mr.President,it's time to start acting like (dare I say)George W.Bush. What started off as Black Greek Week in the late 80s slowly turned into one of the most outrageous,over the top,out of control events on the planet.....and I was right in the middle of it all. Not sure who renamed it Freaknik but it definitely lived up to it's name. My favorite year was 1994. And for the record that guy in the photo is NOT me in disguise. Ahhh,yes 1994,Freaknik that year was unbelieveable.The men were out of control,the women were out of control,the Nupes were DEFINITELY out of control,EVERYBODY was out of control.I would tell you some of the things I did and witnessed but I'm not sure if the statue of limitations are up....SERIOUSLY!!!! To say we did it all would be an understatement.....smh!!
The following year,I returned with a couple of my boys and we were just as out of control. Although it rained early Saturday morning and my boy Steve fell out the back of the van on the interstate that Friday night(long story),we still had fun.Oh don't feel sorry for Steve,he used the black eye and baddage on his face to his advantage the next day.OMG,the stories I could tell....lol. I also found out(to my surprise)the other two guys I went with,Mario & Dell were world famous photographers who specialized in evaluating talent of young women(don't ask).I think 96 was my last year and probably the last "GOOD" year of Freaknik. I remember nothing except I passed out at Dr.J's daughter house and Stanley was dancing. Next thing I knew,I was at my boy Robbie's crib snoring. Some of the things I witnessed throughout those 3-4 years,many people should have went to jail. I saw this one girl basically get raped in front of a police officer. He tried to call back-up but when it takes you 3 hours to go 1 mile,back-up ain't coming. I also saw this one girl and her friend take......well nevermind,you don't need to know that.But for the most part,no one got seriously injured,no one got shot and everyone had fun.
That was 15 years ago. So much has changed since then. Including the mentality of people in the age group that would attend. I don't think you would hear those type of stories.It's sad to say but I GUA-RAN-TEE you,you will be hearing about people getting shot,stabbed and raped. It may take the national guard to get it under control. I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it. And WHATEVER,y'all can stop giving me that look through the computer. Y'all know how crazy these kids are today. They're trigger happy and look at catching a case as a badge of honor. I'm just saying,this could get WAYYYYY out of hand. Plus,do we really need Freaknik in the Age of Obama?

Desiree Rogers Has Left The Building

I am NOT in a good mood today.Not because of this crazy weather in Birmingham. Not because of the dead period in sports(can't watch the NBA).Not even because of some things going on in my personal life. But it's because my girl has left the buiding. White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers stepped down over the weekend. Ms. Rogers came under intense scrutiny back in November when a reality show couple made their way into a private dinner with the POTUS and Indian Prime Minister( can't remember his name).
It was her responsibilty to make sure the right people made it in and the wrong people were kept out. But she was inside kicking it and looking very good I might add.Many including myself,thought Ms.Rogers was starting to get caught up in the spotlight. Maybe she was or maybe she wasn't.But SURELY I didn't expect her to resign. After all,she wasn't someone who just happened to get a job at The White House. She and the Obamas were good friends,VERY good friends. Her ex-husband and Michelle's brother Craig played ball together at Princeton. They all were a very close group. I almost accepted this as a sister just making moves. But something just didn't sound right. So,I did a little research. It appears Ms.Rogers and Valerie Jarrett,the President's Senior Advisor and most trusted friend,were having "issues". Apparently,the magazine interviews and photo shoots Ms. Rogers was doing had began to rub some people in the administration the wrong way.So,to save face or (in my opinion)to keep from "having a word" with Valerie Jarrett,she resigned.
Umm, Mr.President or Mrs. First Lady or SOMEBODY better get this thing under control. Because when one of your closest friends "resigns" and she's replaced by someone who doesn't appear to have the cultural awareness that Ms. Rogers had, something's up. Are we no longer going to see the Poetry & Spoken Word night at the White House? Will Earth,Wind,and Fire now be replaced with Celine Dion as the live entertainment for events? Just thought I would ask. Oh well,I will miss reading your blog Ms. Rogers. And if I may say so,you are without a doubt,the most attractive 50 year old woman I've ever seen.
