The Antoine Dodson Tragedy

I can go so many different places with this. The outfit Mr.Dodson is wearing, the girl in the background with the BLUE hair, the use of profanity while holding the baby. I really could dissect this video. But there is something on my heart that won't allow me to make a bigger mockery out of this tragedy we know as the Antoine Dodson video. Many have been upset with the media's portrayal of Mr.Dodson. Some have said, the media shouldn't put people like Mr.Dodson in front of a camera because it reflects badly on black people. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't.It all depends on how you let other things dictate your self worth. But the question is,can we really blame the media?
Can we blame "some" white people for having this fixation on Antoine Dodson,as if he represents the behavior of all black people? Personally,I think the video of Mr.Dodson should be shown in every classroom in every inner city in this country. Then right after Mr.Dodson's video is shown, show a video of President Obama being sworn in as the 44th POTUS.If that doesn't inspire anyone,I don't know what will.
The sad reality of the Antoine Dodson story is,Mr.Dodson doesn't see anything wrong with the video. Matter of fact,he said on the Tom Joyner Morning Show,he is enjoying his new found celebrity status. He has set up a twitter account. He has a website where he is asking people to donate money to get his family out of the projects. He is doing "speak engagements in front of white people"(his words not mines)and he has his own ringtone.
GREAT! Congratualtions Mr.Dodson! I'm sure the reality show is next.
But can someone tell me if they have caught the guy who was trying to rape his sister? Has anyone reported the attempted rape of 2 other women in that same area? Probably not, because everyone is singing "hide yo wife, hide yo kids." I pray for the day when some of our people will wake up and realize they are better than their current situation. Unfortunately, many will never do so and that's part of the Antoine Dodson tragedy.

  1. We can blame the media, yes. We can blame capitalist America for creating this system whereby tv coverage can add up to quick bucks, where the media gurus would rather depict weak or homosexual black men, and where an attempted rape has been preempted by the rap song created in its honor. The fact is, this guy at least made a proactive move. He saved his sister in a world where so called thugs will sit and watch one of their friends choke his girl out and run out of the room when she passes out (true story, unreported) and where celebrity rappers can punch a girl in the face for taking his picture (JayZ) and continue to enjoy his fame. At least he didn;t run, at least he didn;t sit by. His outfit may be gay but so is he, self admittedly.
At least he is not hiding in the closet like so many priests and politicians. He is not ashamed of who he is. Why should we be?
Why should black AMerica feel embarrassed by this man? Was white America ashamed of Shane Mercado, the Beyonce "single ladies" dancer who won so much fame by dancing to her video)? NO. Did white men feel threatened, or like Shane spoke for white men everywhere? No. Why do we take it so personally? The media has been doing this for decades!
Why is no talent, need some psychiatric help 50Cent so popular? Does he represent black men? A man who will pay a mother to have sex with his friend just to get back at at her child's father, fellow rapper (Rick Ross)? If so, why? BEcause he dresses nice?
Where are our values> is it really all about what you wear? Whatever happened to placing value on having a big heart? ON Sincerity?
    Just wondering.

  2. I thank you for the comments but I think you missed the point of this blog by a mile. I didn't mention, nor do I care about his sexuality. Neither did I mention what he was wearing.Matter of fact,I started the blog by saying I WASN'T going to discuss what he was wearing. Everyone who has posted this video on facebook is doing that. I wanted to come from the angle of his midset and the mindset of people like him.
