The REAL Reason Why There Were No Blacks Nominated For An Oscar

If you look at the list of movies, actors, actresses, supporting cast, etc. for this year's Oscars, you, like me will say, "Surely there must be someone of color worthy of a nomination in at least one of these catagories."
Some people think Tyler Perry's movie For Colored Girls or the documentary Waiting For Superman were deserving of a nomination for SOMETHING!
People have decried racism as the main reason for the BLACKOUT  this year. Not sure if that's the case. I think the REAL reason is, Hollywood doesn't take African-Americans seriously when it comes to supporting or boycotting movies at the box office. Tyler Perry once said, he went to a major movie company in Hollywood to pitch one of his movies and was told, "No one wants to see a BLACK movie." Maybe that's why you don't see a fair representation of us on the screen. Sure, we'll get the minor part in a major movie or the major part in a minor (low budget) movie, but as a whole, Hollywood view us as the people who will be satisfied with a crumb here or a bone there. Meaning, as long as we see Denzel, Will or Halle get a major role every now and then, we're cool. Is that their fault or ours?  Shouldn't we demand more from people who can make a movie that's not about stereotypes and comedy? Or are we cool just sitting back and criticizing Hollywood for having a BLACKOUT while we watch our favorite reality shows?
I've asked myself several times, "Would we even go see a movie that doesn't involve drama or humor?"  I don't know the answer but until we are in a position to have our own Oscars, we'll just have to sit back and accept what is given to us.
 Well, at least for the time being.

This morning, an Ohio judge ordered Ms. Williams-Bolar released from jail after serving nine days of a ten day sentence. We must keep the pressure on to make sure that the felony charge is DROPPED and she is granted a FULL  pardon!

Are Will and Jada "Pimping" Their Kids?

Pimping is a strong word but that's the word Terry McMillian used to descibe what Will and Jada Smith are doing to their children. I can't lie and say I haven't had the same thoughts,especially when their 10 year old daughter said this in an interview with a british newspaper last month:

   "I never really get to go to school because I am always on tour, or with my father. There is a titor most of the time, but usuallyI am working so I never get to do the lessons. The worst thing about math is all of the kids are ahead of because they go to school."

 Terry McMillan made the pimping comment when she was asked about Willow's new role as "Annie" in the upcoming film produced by her father Will Smith and Jay-Z. I think her point was, since Will owns the company that's producing the movie, he doesn't have to pay anyone else to play the role of "Annie", he can just use his daughter and the money will stay in house. Not sure about you but where I come from, that's called..........pimping (but on different level). Look, I have no problem with supporting your children and making sure they're living out their dreams, but shouldn't you send a message that education is important? Shouldn't you also try to keep them grounded and away from over-exposure?

Not saying I agree with Terry McMillian, but I understand where she was coming from.

Who She Calling "Blackie-O" ?

This thang (^^^^^^^^^^) was on the Howard Stern show this morning and said this about the First Lady:
      "we used to have Jackie O, now we have Blackie O"
I'm telling you, these folks better leave the First Lady alone. I could care less if it was meant to be a joke,
IT AIN'T FUNNY!
Besides, I don't think it was meant as a joke at all. I think she spoke what was in her heart and tried to cover it up in comedy. For two years, these people have attacked the President and he's been unflappable. I guess they think they'll just go after his wife and nobody will say anything.
Try it and see what happens!
Lately:
Designers have been publicly criticizing what she wears.
State officials in Maryland are blaming her for pedestrian deaths.
The list goes on and on.
I tell you one thang, they can start if they want to. Just as long as they know, they're dealing with a Harvard educated black woman from the southside of Chicago.
Translation: She's smart AND she's hood (when she has to be) and has a nation of millions behind her.
I love the President but I love his wife even more for standing BY him when he was just the broke dude with big ears and a funny name that nobody liked because he wasn't "black enough".

There's gonna be a lot of slow singing and flower bringing, if the First Lady alarm starts ringing!

This Mother Needs Our Help

Ms.Kelly Williams-Bolar is a single mother living in a housing projects in Akron,Ohio with her two daughters. She was doing all she could to make a better life for her girls. At age 40, she went back to school to get her certification to become a teacher. Last week, Ms.Williams-Bolar was sentenced to 10 days in jail for using her father's address so that her daughters could go to school in the all- white Copley Township school district. She, along with her father was convicted of a fourth degree felony of grand theft and defrauding the school system of $30,500 (the two year cost of tutition).

I really have a problem with this because this mother just wanted to make sure her girls got an education in a safe environment. Ms.Williams- Bolar was almost finished completing the courses she needed to become a teacher, but now that she's a "convicted felon", she's not allowed to teach in the state of Ohio. I bet if Ms. Williams-Bolar had a son who was a superstar athlete and was helping that school win games, nobody would have said a mumbling word. Matter of fact, they probably would have offered her a little cash on the side and a rent free apartment to live in. These things happen all the time.(don't ask me how I know)

She really need our help right now.

No Standing Ovation For Steve Harvey's Ex Wife

*Clapping*
Great job Mrs. Harvey! You sure did put a dent in the brand known as Steve Harvey. But wait, you're no longer MRS. Harvey. You're now MISS HARVEY! Is that why you have chosen this time to come forth with things you should have presented in a court of law? I'm not buying the "He manipulated the courts" argument. Any court in America would have awarded you your son, alimony and a six figure a month child support check if what you say happened is true.

I sat and kept my mouth closed over the weekend as people around me talked about the now infamous videos of Steve Harvey's EX wife. I sat and kept my fingers to myself (instead of typing) as I read thread after thread on the internet and social media.
The comments were laughable:
"I knew he was a fraud"
"Bout time someone exposed him"
"He ain't no relationship expert, he just wants to sell books."
"He's trying to pimp God by going on tour with Kirk Franklin."
I read it all.
 But what really stood out to me was how quick people turned on this man. For years, people have helped this man sell out shows and made his morning show number one in most major markets.
It amazed me how cold and cruel they were with their comments too. I'm not talking about passing judgement on him, I'm talking about the pleasure people took in discussing the "downfall" of this man. I have NEVER heard of or observed another race of people who takes pride in building up one of their own, but takes even more pride in tearing him down or watching him fall.
I recall about a year ago when people in the blogasphere, social media and everywhere else were tearing him apart for crying on TBN while doing an interview with Donnie McClurkin. Many of them accused Steve of trying to manipulate the public .
They were saying,
" How you gonna say you love the Lord but still curse?"
" Those tears weren't real."
The man never proclaimed to be perfect. He said himself, that he was a work in progress. And you know the messed up part about the TBN thing? It was mostly Church Folks who were throwing darts at him. I'm so sick and tired of you holier than thou people with your church attitudes and rules on proper Christian protocol judging whether someone's worship is real or not. You are the number one reason why some people in the black community don't attend church. You can blame it on the "mega-church" if you want to. But YOU are the reason. You need to sit yo stuck up, judgemental......WAIT.....my bad. That's the old me coming out. Let me stay on track!
I'm willing to bet that if Steve Harvey was only concerned with cursing, smoking and drinking, most people would have NEVER said the things on message boards and social network that were said about him this past weekend. They would have come to his defense and said, "That woman is lying. She's just bitter and scorned." But since he has proclaimed, he's trying to live right and God is now the center of his life, people were quick to call him a hypocrite!"
Just because this man has written a couple of relationship books, he's held to a higher standard? Hell, R. Kelly write some of the best love songs that the ear has ever heard. Is he held to the same high standard? Does what Steve Harvey is accused of doing, trump Kells taking a leak on a 15 year old?

Has it occured to some of you that he may be writing the type of books he's writing because God is working on his heart? Is it possible that he recognizes in order to clear his conscious, he has to drop some knowledge to help women avoid dealing with men like the man he used to be?
I don't know if the things his ex-wife said are true or not, and honestly, I don't care. But since we're on the things his ex-wife said; Did anyone other than me find it interesting that at the end of the second video, she promoted a book that was written as a response to Steve Harvey's book? Let's see, Steve's current book has sold over a million copies. Shanae Hall's book has sold............. EXACTLY!!
What better way to get people to buy her book than by having his ex-wife trash him and at the end say, "This book really helped me through my tough times."
I guess that little book called THE BIBLE wasn't available, huh Miss Harvey?

 God has spoken some things over my life. And since He is not a man that he shall lie, there may come a time when I have a platform to affect the lives of others. If I get that platform, I will have no shame in professing my love for Jesus Christ, just as Steve Harvey has. If you think for one second, you are reading the words of a perfect man or a man that has not made his share of mistakes, you are crazy. I have done some things that make Steve Harvey look like a priest! (Ok, maybe not a priest but you get the point). If you knew a third of the things I've done, many of you would stop reading my blogs and start attacking me right now for even coming to the defense of Steve Harvey. So if the day comes when someone say "I remember when" about me; don't be surprised. Just say, Mod said he wasn't perfect. And the last time I checked, Steve Harvey didn't claim to be perfect either. So why are many of you acting like he said he was?

MSNBC Is OFFICALLY A Joke

For years, every night at 7 o'clock, I tuned into MSNBC to watch Countdown w/ Keith Olbermann. Not sure if I will watch that network again, although Rachel does a good job. But there was something about Keith, that when he spoke, made you want to say.....TELL EM KEITH! Now he's gone. I don't know if it was his decision or the powers that be. But with his departure, MSNBC has officially become a joke. If there's a breaking news story on the weekend, don't expect to find it on MSNBC. Instead, expect to get an education on what it's like to live in prison.
I don't know what Keith is going to do next, hopefully, it's radio. But as for MSNBC, they should shut that network down and start from scratch. MSNBC without Keith Olbermann is like Sportscenter without the highlights.

Flava Flav Fried Chicken and Liquor!

Flava Flav has launched a chicken franchise in Iowa. YES, I said Iowa!
Not only has he launched a chicken franchise, but he's also launched a liquor line: LeFlav Spirits. You can get it in your two favorite flavas (Get it? I said, "FLAVA instead of FLAVOR?)
Nevermind!
You can get it in your two favorite "flavas", bubblegum and sweet tea.
SMH!!!
Why a brotha gotta start his own chicken joint and liquor line? Why can't he start his own......I don't know........fruit stand or something!

I can see it now. I'm watching the Super Bowl, enjoying all of the great Bud Light commercials and out of nowhere I hear a YEAAAHHHHHH BOYYYYYY!!!!!!
Then Flava Flav pops up on my screen wearing one of those ridiculous outfits like the one in the picture above,on a commercial, promoting his fried chicken and liquor. Do we really want to see that on a television screen? I'm all for starting your own business, this IS America! But for some reason, I ain't feeling this one!

Fellas, what kind of shoes are you rocking these days?
I can tell you, women are checking out your shoe game. I bring this up because I was checking out a thread where a few dudes were calling men who take serious pride in their appearance, gay.
Why I gotta be all that?
Ain't nothing wrong with a brotha rocking a nice pair of shoes. Matter of fact, I see nothing wrong with brothas getting manicures and pedicures. Just as long as you don't something stupid, like get them polished or french tips or something like that! 
Then, we might have a problem!
But fellas, I challenge you to step your fashion game up. You don't have to spend a lot of money. Just buy something nice so that when you're out with your woman, she can stand back and say, "That's MY man!"
Just trying to help!
Trust me, she'll appreciate it!

Blame Michelle Obama; How Petty!

This week a 15 year old kid was killed when he ran in front of an SUV at a busy intersection in Maryland. People aren't sure whose at fault. They don't know if the SUV ran a red light or the kid just didn't see the vehicle.
But the GHSA (Governor's Highway Safety Authority) know exactly what happened and who caused the accident.
It was Michelle Obama!!
That's right, it was the First Lady!
They said, the 0.4 percent increase in pedestrian deaths is caused by the First Lady's "Let's Move" campaign. A campaign that encourages kids to get out the house and exercise more.

I promise, I don't make this stuff up!

If the First Lady is responsible for this; can we blame Sarah Palin for the dropout rate in school? I mean, if she was smarter, maybe kids would stay in school!

These people, I tell you the truth!

Black Man Found Hanging From A Tree In Missisippi

I don't know how I missed this story!
On December 3rd of last year, Frederick Jermaine Carter,26 of Sunflower, Ms. was found hanging from a tree in the nearby all white neighborhood of North Greenwood, Ms. His death was originally ruled a suicide. But things aren't adding up!
Mr. Carter had a history of mental issues and would occasionally run away. But if he wanted to commit suicide, why would he go to an all white area of town to do it?
Why would he go through the hassle of finding a rope, tying it to a tree, putting it around his neck and pulling himself up high enough until his neck snapped?
Why not just grab one of the many guns his family owned and blow his brains out?
That sounds harsh, but it makes more sense. If you're going to do something like that, why go through the trouble of lynching yourself in an area you know nothing about?
His family is not buying!
The Mayor of Sunflower, Ms. is not buying it!
And neither am I!
I live in Alabama and can tell you for a fact, that "some" people in some of these small, back wood towns are stuck in this 1961 way of thinking. They still ride around with the Confederate flags tags on their trucks and still believes The South Will Rise Again!

Do You Know The Signs Of A Stroke?

I had a brief scare this week. My dad, who is 59 years old but thinks he's 39, suffered a mild stroke. All of the warning signs were there: dizziness, numbness etc. But not able to recognize the symptoms (and being stubborn) he ignored the warning signs. He is being released from the hospital today but I want to share this link with you to help you recognize the signs of a stroke.

Dear Venus Williams, Enough Is Enough

This is what I saw when I turned on ESPN yesterday! This is Venus Williams in another one of her infamous outfits. Am I the only person tired of turning on the television and seeing this?
I know they're trying to make a "fashion statement" but my goodness:
Can we see something that looks halfway classy?
They're the only two sisters (black women) we see on the tennis court and it's a darn shame that everytime they're on television, they look like something that just stepped out of a strip club......a HOOD strip club at that!
I know some dudes find these outfits attractive, why, I don't know. But I wish someone would step to them and let them know that they're not only representing themselves, but (fairly or unfairly) they are representing all black women when they step on the court.

Just my opinion!

Do You Know This Man?

Since the Michael Steele angle didn't work, the GOP has come up with another way to trick , I meant, reach out to black voters. This time, they have decided to be a little more aggressive. This time, they are going to throw "some" of their weight, money and support behind a black man as a serious Presidential candidate in 2012.
Meet Herman Cain!
Mr. Cain is a great American success story. He was raised in Atlanta by two hard working, blue-collar parents. His father worked as a chauffer and a janitor, and his mother worked as a maid. Mr. Cain is a well accomplished business man. In the early 80s, he took over 450 under-performing Burger Kings, turned them around and made them profitable. In the mid 80s, he took over a failing Godfather's Pizza company and turned them into the household name they are today. Mr. Cain has all the traits that would make him an attractive alternative to Barack Obama. But make no mistake about it, the only thing that Mr. Cain and the President has in common is their skin color. Mr. Cain is a tea party member and is against EVERYTHING the President stands for.
But that's not how the GOP will package Mr. Cain.
They're going to package him as a moderate who "likes" the President, but thinks he's out of touch with the people-especially, BLACK people.
(They will point to the high unemployment numbers in the black community to make this point).
But I think we all know that a black man can't win the GOP nomination. But just so they won't look like the party for white people only, they'll place him on the GOP ticket with a certain Governor from the South, whom you've read about a couple of times on this blog and package them as a portrait of REAL AMERICA.
They are banking on the fact that the black voters who supported the President in 2008 won't show up to the polls and the white moderates who voted for the President, will take a serious look at their ticket.
LET'S PROVE THEM WRONG!!!!

It's up to you and me to make sure that others are educated about the games and tricks of the GOP.

"Some Of My Best Friends Are Black"

You know when you hear that, there's bound to be some drama that follows.
The Governor of Maine was asked to attend some of events by the Maine chapter of the NAACP.
(Wait, I didn't know there were that many black people in the state of Maine to form a NAACP chapter)
ANYWAY................
The Governor of Maine was asked to attend some events sponsored by the Maine chapter of the NAACP to celebrate Dr. King's birthday. He refused, citing "personal committments".
 "I'm not going to be held hostage by a special interst group" is what he said about the invitation of the NAACP.
This is the same man who said he would tell Barack Obama to "go to hell" if he was elected POTUS.
If a sitting governor of a state turns down an invite to attend a ceremony honoring Dr. King, in my mind, that means, you disrespect everything the man stood for. And that also means, that you are......more than likely, a racist. Despite having an adopted son who is black and despite the disputed fact that "some of your best friends" are black.

Michael Steele Has Left The Building

Well, that's THAT!
Two years after taking over as Chairman of the RNC.
Two years after promising to bring more black voters to the "big tent" known as the Republican party.
Two years after promising to make the GOP "more hip" (his words, not mine), Michael Steele has left the building.
He dropped his bid for re-election yesterday, after realizing that he wasn't going to get re-elected as party chair.
You know what's funny?
They actually gave him a standing ovation after he made his announcement. But in typical Michael Steele fashion, he fell to understand that those people weren't cheering him because of what he had done for the party.
Nooooooooo
They were cheering because he was finally leaving!
Ever since the GOP realized that Michael Steele wasn't their Barack Obama.
Ever since they realized, he couldn't deliver black voters, they no longer felt he was important.
Everybody knew this, well, everybody except Michael Steele. Michael Steele was elected for one reason and one reason only, so the GOP could say;
 "Hey black folks, we like y'all too. Look, we have a Black Chairman."
Ladies and gentlemen, that's called being a token and in my opinion, that's exactly what Mr. Steele was. These people don't give two cents about him or people of color.
It has gotten so bad that other black Republicans like Anthony Miller of Arizona, has resigned from his post as the district chair, beccause Tea Party members in Arizona are making racial threats against him. The GOP has now become the party of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. And in there party, there's no place under the "big tent" for anyone who doesn't look like them. Hopefully now, Micahel Steele understands that.....but I doubt it!

Mississippi Governor Wants To Build Civil Rights Museum

 Last month, Mississippi Governor, Haley Barbour said the Conservative Citizen's Council (businessmen by day & klansman by night) was misunderstood. Those comments landed him in hot water. Since then, he's granted a "conditional release" to the Scott sisters and now he wants to build a civil rights museum. I hope the good people from the state of Mississippi see this for what it is: an attempt quiet them so he can pursue his Presidential bid in 2012.
This man has been governor of that state for......well, I'm not sure how long he's been the governor.
But if he was serious about doing this, he could have done it YEARS ago. I'm sure he's sat down with members of the NAACP and he's trying to appease them, I understand how the game go.
But if he really wants to do something constructive; if he's really serious about addressing civil rights issues; how about re-opening cold cases from the civil rights era.
How about re-opening the case of Frank Morris, a black business owner who was set on fire in 1964. One of the suspects from that case is still alive. Go arrest him for murder! His name is Arthur Leonard Spencer and he lives in Rayville, Mississippi.
How about re-opening the case of Whartlest Jackson in Natchez Mississippi. He was murdered in 1967 because he got a promotion over 2 white men.
Those same 2 white men went to work the next day after Mr. Jackson went missing and told everybody that Mr. Jackson had retired and wasn't coming back to work anymore.
I suggest that if Governor Barbour wants his "goodwill" to be taken seriously, he offer something more than just a token gesture.

Have You Heard of "My Princess Boy"?

Last week, I was watching CNN and this crazy woman Cheryl Kilodavis was on the Joy Behar Show talking about her "Princess Boy". It was one of the saddest things I've seen in a long time. This woman was allowing her 5 year old son to wear dresses and play with dolls. She was basically raising him as a girl because he would always ask to play with dolls and wear dresses. She said, "Kids should be able to express themselves and parents should support them at all costs.
"WOMAN PLEASE!!!!
When my son was 2 years old, he picked up a doll and wanted to play with it. I said, "Girls play with dolls and boys play with balls. If I ever catch you near a doll again, I'mma whoop your butt!"
And that was that.
Never again did my son think about touching a doll.
Where is the father?
Why is he cowering in a corner while his crazy wife parade his 5 year old son around on every talk show in America with a darn dress on? Has this country become so "sissified" (yes, I said sissified) , that parents are afraid to be parents?
I'm all for tolerance, to a certain extent. But this woman should be ashamed of herself for raising this boy as the little girl she never had.

Oprah Winfrey's New Network

A lot of people are criticizing Oprah Winfrey's new network for it's lack of diversity. Did we expect anything different from Oprah? For the last several years, Oprah's brand has been about as mainstream as you can get. So why are people surprised that she hasn't included more black programming on her network? Were people expecting OWN to be the second coming of BET? Were people expecting Oprah to abandon her core audience? Oprah is doing what she has always done, made herself appealing to everybody. Plus, Oprah has probably figured out that she can't please everybody. When she started a school for girls in Africa, many people were complaining because she didn't do it here in America.
People are also criticizing Oprah for not demanding that her new network be moved to basic cable. That's funny to me considering the fact that Bravo, you know, the station RHOA comes on, is not offered on basic cable either in most markets. Yet, that station has huge ratings in the African American community.
I'm convinced that people are throwing darts at Oprah because she's black. Unfortunately, the dart throwers are black too, which is probably why Oprah has postioned herself the way she has. Oprah realized a long time ago, that she can't win with some people, but the people she can win with, she can win BIG!

My Favorite Uncle

WARNING: LANGUAGE MAY BE OFFENSIVE TO SOME



Everyone has one, you know, that one uncle that everybody loves to see show up at the family reunion or holiday dinner. One thing about you know about your favorite uncle, he's going to get drunk, tell lies, talk loud and eventually, cuss somebody out. But one thing we all know about our favorite uncle, HE DON'T PLAY!!

I want you guys to meet my favorite uncle. He got word that his nephew was claiming to be a thug and a gangsta on FB. So, he did what any favorite uncle would do.........HE WHOOPED HIS NEPHEW'S BEHIND!!!

Sure the language is harsh (to some) but I applaud him for doing what some men WON'T do, discipline a young man when he needs it. He makes a great point (while whooping this boy), that this rap music culture we live in has polluted the minds of our youth. It has them thinking that being a thug, a gangsta and going to jail is cool. If there were more people like my favorite uncle, maybe we wouldn't have so much foolishness.

Missing North Carolina Teen

Phylicia Barnes was reported missing last week while she was in Baltimore to visit family. Barnes, who is from Monroe, North Carolina, left the apartment she was staying at on December 28 to get something to eat and she never came back.

Barnes has no history of running away and was on track to graduate from high school.

Her family asserts that it is completely unlike Phylicia to disappear of her accord. She was on track to graduate high school early and make her way to college.
The teen was spending the holidays in Baltimore with a half-sister that she had recently met.

Another Year, Another New Year's Resolution You Won't Keep

Here we go again!
 It's the first business day of a new year and everybody and their MAMA'S mama is talking about losing weight and working out. So me, (being the smart person that I am), I decided I would go to the gym early today thinking I can get in, do my thing, and get out before the crowd hits. Well, once again, you slackers have ruined my day at the gym!
I get to the gym and you people are EVERYWHERE!
(With the exception of big muscle dudes who stand in the mirror all day) Nothing irks me more than to have you out of shape dudes just sitting on the bench looking around. Dude, what are you looking at? Use the machine or get out of the way!
Then there were these ladies standing by the stationary bikes just staring at them like the bikes were supposed to pick THEM up and ride THEM.
Me being Mr. Nice Guy (and a little ticked off), I decied to go get a trainer to get them out of the way, (I meant),  to assist them.
THIS dude starts talking to one of the ladies,trying to get her phone number.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know this is normal activity at most gyms, but I bet you that most of you people won't be there more than a month!
It happens every year.
"Girl, I'm going to the gym so I can be fine by the summer."
Or
"Man, I'm about to get this gym membership so I can get a six pack for the summer."
YEAH.....RIGHT!!!
You know doggone well, that after the first of February, you won't see a gym again until this time next year. You'll be looking at your caller ID trying to avoid the trainer who wants to know why you didn't get that gym membership you were so determined to get.
I'm sorry for the ranting but you people get on my nerves!!!
I wish you would go home and watch some Donna Richardson or Richard Simmons tapes or something, instead of cluttering up the gym.
